The error code is just the architectural error code for page faults and seems to be architecture specific. Thus: if the error code is 4, then the faulty memory access is a read from userland if the error code is 6, then the faulty memory access is a write Segfault Error Codes Thanks! –knorv Mar 31 '10 at 6:30 3 According to stackoverflow.com/a/2179464/1100614 , error is not the value of errno, but an architecture-specific error code for page faults. –Martin von Wittich

My first guess was that there's a Hardware problem of some sort and I asked my Hoster (it's a rented root server) to do a full hardwarecheck - they did, but I couldn't get in to work with these segmentation fault errors and I lose my precious time and the work I done when the browser crashes.

It means possible hardware issue. 1 members found this post helpful. This could be done natively on the target or using gdbserver to debug remotely from the host. For added information on the issue please see post #17. So I guess it is a hardware issue than software issue.

They are often documented in arch/*/mm/fault.c in the kernel source. I even re-installed OS and this time I installed Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS and the issue persists. And this information still is within the coredump, in the link_map structure.
