I turned the camera off, then on again. I had the CARD LOCKED problem, tried the tooth pick trick and it worked. This helps to remove any debris that may be covering the sensor in the camera. THE TAPE WORKED FOR US!!!! Source

Just thought I would pass it on in case someone else was having the same problem. Sandisk Memory Card Error Also, be sure your adapter is not locked, if it is, unlock it by sliding the tiny tab in the other direction. The grey switch on my SD card kept slipping into the lock position when i would put it in.. The SD card was sitting in the adapter case.

A new SX40 is likely still under warranty. It worked man. I put it in the camera and it says "no card". I think i probably have a defective model.
